The Future of Architecture. What exactly are we talking about? An Explainer
Equity, sustainability, the future of our profession, the future of our education, and where we think we are going if nothing changes! These are just some of the topics we hope to discuss. The list is not extensive. It is just the beginning.
Are there any other issues in architecture you want to discuss?

Everyone has said this already, but we are going to repeat it. Because it’s still true.
Covid
Has
Changed
Everything
And it has changed Nothing. The problems that we see so clearly during the pandemic have existed for at least 200 years or more. But now we seem to be ready to address them, maybe even search for some answers.
So we came up with a project to find the sources of many of the issues we face as a profession, and we chose to take them on with the media of our time. Not surprisingly, most of our troubles are intertwined, and connect to each other. Like a braided rope. That means we first need to take a stab at unwinding the strands and seeing them each on their own. The strands are what we hold here in the present, but they began in the past and link us to decisions taken long ago. So, we begin with a bit of history, search for places of leverage, and speculate on how we can address those points today. And then we ask you all to chime in. It’s populist. It may get out of hand, but it’s also very accessible and gives us a way to work around the normal gatekeepers that surround any profession.
What are we talking about? The list is not extensive, and just a beginning, but the subject matter seems nearly inevitable, even if we just barely acknowledge the news cycle. Equity, sustainability, the future of our profession, the future of our education, and where we think we are going if nothing changes.
These are abstract ideas. Adding the personal identifiers of who, what and how, allows us to question the topics in a more intimate way. How did we get here, where do we need to go, and what leverage do we need if we want to turn insights into action?
